2023
  • Sky Tempesta Racing placed 2nd in a GT Indianapolis 8-hour race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend.
  • Driver, Jonathan Hui leads the Intercontinental GT Challenge Independent Cup by eleven points

Sky Tempesta Racing pushed hard in the penultimate round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by the Pirelli Independent Cup to try and guarantee the Independent Cup win this weekend. However, their second-place finish in the championship race was unable to guarantee the crown for driver, Jonathan Hui, meaning it will go down to the wire in the final round of the championship, the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi on 10 December 2023.

The team started the race weekend with a fantastic qualifying in the #535 Ferrari 488, which has a specially designed livery inspired by the upcoming blockbuster film Ferrari. The team’s overall qualifying position at P10 meant the team was not only the highest Ferrari but also secured them the chance to battle it out in the Pole Shootout, where Edward Cheever III claimed an additional position, raising the team to start at P9 on the gird.

The 8-hour race at the famous Indianapolis Motor Speedway began with a spectacular start just after noon on Saturday, 7 October, with the 22 cars roaring around the infield road course. Throughout the endurance race, the drivers pushed hard, competeing with the eleven cars which made up the Pro-Am lineup. However, the team could not maintain the speed of the leading cars and just missed the Pro-AM overall podium, finishing in P4.

In the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by the Pirelli Independent Cup, Sky Tempesta Racing finished P2, just behind the championship rivals, Huber Motorsport in the #20 Porsche. Sky Tempesta Driver, Jonathan Hui, still leads the independent cup by 11 points. However, the team will need to perform at the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi in December to secure the title for 2023.

Chris Froggatt, Driver, #535 Sky Tempesta Racing Ferrari 488
“What a fun experience being back in our championship winning car in such a special livery! I really enjoyed my first experience racing in the states, hoping for some more opportunities to come back next year!”

Jonathan Hui, Driver, #535 Sky Tempesta Racing Ferrari 488
“A nostalgic weekend driving our old 488 GT3 Evo and working with key members from the previous championship winning years. We were missing a bit of top speed this weekend but otherwise it was a clean and trouble free race, just missing out on the Pro Am podium. P4 in the end and more importantly P2 in the IGTC Independent Cup means we will go to Abu Dhabi to decide the title with an 11 point lead.”

Eddie Cheever III, Driver, #535 Sky Tempesta Racing Ferrari 488
“It was pretty emotional to be back all together racing a Ferrari with Af Corse.Overall happy with everyone’s performance and can’t wait to be back racing in December for the final race of the season. We will try our hardest to help Jon win his second championship this year.”
