Our Story
So Far

Eddie Cheever III, namesake son of former Formula 1 driver, is a talented and successful driver in his own right, was an ideal driving mentor and coach to Chris as he embarked on his motorsport career. Yet with the sole objective of using the 2017 season as a familiarisation and learning experience for novice Chris, his first season of racing with Sky Tempesta Racing, produced a series of impressive podiums and wins in the Pro-Am class resulted in a 3rd place championship finish.

In 2018, Chris lined up once more on the grid in the European Ferrari Challenge series, but this time the team’s target was the championship itself. A 100% finishing record consisting of 10 wins, 4 seconds, and a solitary non-podium (4th) place meant that he totally dominated the series, winning the championship by a remarkable margin of 130 points.

The 2018 season was also crowned by Chris being selected to represent the UK in the FIA’s GT Nations Cup in Bahrain, where driving alongside former Le-Mans competitor Chris Buncombe the pair finished as Vice Champions. Quite the start for Team Tempesta indeed!

Energised even more by this success, the inevitable questions for Chris were “What’s next? What can we achieve? And can my passion, desire, and commitment enable me to compete at a higher level, with more experienced drivers?”

There was only one way and place to find out, on the track!
Eager to continue capitalising on Eddie’s vast knowledge and experience, both as a driver, mentor and friend, Chris elected to step up to the challenge of ultra-competitive GT3 racing and the renowned Blancpain Endurance Championship and GT Open in 2019. Driving alongside Eddie in the GT Open.

Not afraid of a new challenge the rennoued Blancpain Endurance Championship would bring, Chris Froggatt teamed up with his Nations Cup partner, Chris Buncombe, who had won the 2018 Blancpain series. Sky Tempesta Racing needed a third driver for the endurance events. They lined up on the grid with Hong Kong “gentleman” racer Jonathan Hui. The trio finished 3rd in the GT Endurance Cup 2019.
With the subsequent morphing of the Blancpain series into the ‘GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS’ series for 2020, the appeal of the sprint and endurance competitions together, presented yet another opportunity for the Sky Tempesta Racing team to show their prowess.

Despite the pandemic truncated 2020 season, the illustrious pairing of Chris and Eddie co-driving in the Sprint Championship enjoyed tremendous success with 6 class wins, 4 for the Froggatt/Cheever pairing. A second Tempesta car (#92) was entered at the Magny Cours round, where endurance driver Jonathan Hui partnered with former F1 ace, Giancarlo Fisichella no less. The duo earned 2 class wins over the sprint weekend.

2020 was certainly a great season for the team with Sky Tempesta Racing crowned the GT World Challenge European Sprint PRO-AM Champions and Overall PRO-AM Champions.
Podiums and trophies aside, what these results have proven is that 5 short years after Chris Froggatt’s took to the track for the first time, the team has astutely teamed up with like minded amateur and professional drivers to form a highly respected and winning Pro-Am endurance racing team.

2022 saw the biggest change for the team, following the decision to switch manufactures from Ferrari to Mercedes. Driving the new Mercedes AMG GT3 has given the team a new challenge and opportunity to prove themselves on the international stage of GT Racing.

Sky Tempesta Racing, with its founding ethos of teamwork, talent and tenacity, has already led to triumph and given the spirit, enthusiasm, dedication and drive of the team, they will most certainly achieve their biggest goals in the future.
